Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has officially landed a role on the board of directors for Euro 2028.

The 32-year-old will combine playing Premier League football with helping organise the tournament in England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.

The British Isles nations won the bid to host the next European Championship two years ago after Turkey withdrew from contention. However, unlike the other four countries, Northern Ireland will not be hosting any matches as planned and will therefore be ineligible for automatic qualification.

The inaugural board meeting will take place on 28 March at the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff.

Debbie Hewitt MBE, Chair of UK & Ireland 2028, said: “This is a landmark moment in our journey to deliver the best-ever UEFA EURO in 2028.

“We look forward to collaborating with football and government colleagues across the multi-nation partnership to host an outstanding tournament - one that is welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring.

"Together, we are committed to ensuring a safe and sustainable event that boosts football development and creates long-term economic and social benefits.

“Working with UEFA, we aim to harness the power of European football to engage the next generation of players, fans, and volunteers.”

Mings, who has been capped 18 times by England, last played for his country almost two years ago. While he is anticipated to still be playing in 2028, when he will be 35, there is only a slim chance he will feature for England at the next Euros. His most recent cap came against Malta in June 2023.

Being named on the Euro 2028 board is another accolade to add to his impressive list of off-field activities.

The centre-back was once named in Forbes' '30 Under 30' list, recognising 'young visionaries,' after working with Prince William on an initiative to end homelessness.

Mings also runs a football academy in Birmingham and serves as director of the interior design company KTM. In November 2021, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Education by Bath Spa University in a ceremony described as entertaining, inspiring, and moving. Mings was born and raised in Bath.

On the pitch, Mings returned to action in October after nearly 15 months out with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The former Ipswich Town and Bournemouth star suffered the injury against Newcastle United on the opening day of the 2023/24 season and required surgery.

However, Mings made his comeback in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Crystal Palace, starting for Villa. Since then, he has featured 17 times for Unai Emery's side this season and was particularly impressive in the Champions League against Club Brugge last month, making several crucial interventions.
