After serving the community for over 10 years, the CVS (Consumer Value Stores) in Alice is officially closing its doors. The announcement came last week, leaving many residents surprised and concerned about the future of their local health care and pharmacy services.

According to corporate CVS management, doors will officially close Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The closures are not due to industry pressures but are based on factors like population shifts and consumer needs. CVS Pharmacy is closing 270 more stores this year but are also opening new locations, including 30 stores in 2025, to better serve high-demand areas.

For many in the Hub City, the CVS store has been a staple in their daily lives. Located conveniently in the heart of town, it provided not only prescription medications but also a range of health products, everyday necessities, and even seasonal items. For years, the pharmacy was a place for quick errands, flu shots, and a friendly face at the counter.

The loss of the store also impacts employees, some of whom have worked at the Alice CVS location for years. Several staff members who refused to be mentioned, are now seeking new employment, while others have been offered transfers to other nearby locations, though not everyone is able to make that transition.

While CVS’s decision to close the store is final, many in town are curious about what will take its place. The vacant property could spark interest from local businesses or new ones that would like to inquire about potential leases. There is hope that another business could occupy the space, helping to fill the gap left behind.
