Netflix's new thriller hailed as 'better than most Hollywood offerings' with 'crazy' twists and turns

Netflix has released a new thriller from South Korea which has been hailed as a "masterpiece" by some fans

The latest Netflix phenomenon is a compelling South Korean thriller that just hit the streaming service last Friday, 21st March, dishing out tension and mystery in spades. As fans and critics continue to lavish praise, this eerie crime thriller is already amassing a dedicated fanbase.

Helmed by Yeon Sang-ho of Train to Busan fame, this enigmatic film noir centres on a haunting case of a missing person where divine foresight meets detective intuition.

The official blurb teases viewers: "A pastor who believes in divine revelation and a detective haunted by visions pursue a missing person case - exposing their own demons in the process."

In this era when the likes of Squid Game and other K-dramas and films have been turned into global phenomena by Netflix, this latest edge-of-your-seat outing is not something you want to miss.

It gets rave endorsements left and right, like this IMDb reviewer who enthuses Revelations is simply "better than most Hollywood offerings".

Don't let this latest sensation from South Korea fly under the radar

They continued: "The story takes many twists and turns and lines between good and bad are blurred, which of course is far more to how life actually is than most of Hollywood's superhero style movies.

"The acting is superb, they put western actors to shame [and] I cried at the end."

Over on Letterboxd, another cinephile expressed their admiration: "While it does not reach the level of Oldboy, Parasite, or Train to Busan, it is still a very good thriller that kept me hooked the entire time!", reports Surrey Live.

"The story was well-crafted, following the Korean tradition of incorporating many crazy twists and emotional dilemmas, all while delivering some thrilling scenes and asking how far people will go in the name of their religion."

On the same site, a five-star write up described it as "a chilling South Korean crime thriller full of dark twists and clever turns.

"It's easily one of the year's finest films. Yeon Sang-ho's direction delivers disturbing crimes in abundance.

"Revelations is like The Wailing, Zodiac, Memories of Murder, Prisoners, I Saw the Devil, The Call, and Officer Black Belt all rolled into one sick film."

They also showered praise on lead actors Ryu Jun-yeol for his "unhinged" turn as pastor Sung Min-chan, and Shin Hyun-been for her "compelling" role as "pretty and determined Detective Yeon-hee".

Revelations features several twists you won't see coming

"In all, Revelations is a gripping 122 minutes that does not waste a minute as the story gets increasingly complex," they summarised.

And another user enthused: "The movie was longer than I expected it to be, but not in like a draggy way.

"This was absolutely incredible. Every time I thought 'OK maybe now it's over' there was still 20 minutes left.

"And damn, what a satisfying ending. Really one of the craziest movies I've seen in a long time."

Thriller enthusiasts, don't miss out on this brilliant new flick straight out of South Korea.
