Legislative preview for the week of March 24

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - We’re nearing the point where all bills have been introduced in committee and are now either going to the floor or appropriations. There’s still a couple of interesting things to talk about, however.
Local government officials are set to clash with automotive and gas station representatives over House Bill 1382, which would increase fuel taxes by three cents per gallon and up certain electric vehicle registration fees.
Meanwhile, House Bill 1558 heads to the Senate looking to require restitution to a child if someone is found guilty of criminal vehicular homicide involving the child’s parent or guardian.
Two bills covering cell phones and personal electronic devices will be discussed Wednesday. Both require school districts to enact policies limiting their usage, but one is broader on the type of electronics.
Finally, the controversial bill calling for an end to Daylight Saving Time goes to the Senate Thursday. Should House Bill 1259 pass, North Dakota would go to permanent standard time.
Most of the action going forward will either be on the chamber floor or in the various appropriation committees.
