Okotoks Nissan's second annual Hockey Day in Canada youth street hockey tournament will be hosted at the dealership on April 5, with former NHLer Kelly Hrudey joining Okotokians for the free event.

The event is scheduled to go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Hrudey on site to greet fans and present all tournament participants with Hockey Night in Canada towels.

The street hockey tournament will feature three divisions — six to eight years old, nine to 11 and 12 to 14 — with four teams per division.

Players will compete four-on-four, with one goalie on each side for a total of five players per team. Two spares will be allowed for a maximum roster of seven players on each team.

Prizes for first, second and third place are yet to be announced.

At the time of publication, registration is full for the nine to 11 and 12 to 14 divisions, with players still able to sign up for the six to eight division. Learn more and sign up on the Okotoks Nissan website.

The tournament is free for participants and spectators, though people are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item donation for the Okotoks Food Bank.

"It's going to be an exciting time for all the kids," said Okotoks Nissan general manager Alyc Keith, "and other hockey fans that live in town here that want to come meet Kelly Hrudey, he'll be here most of the day."

Hrudey, a longtime host of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, played for the Los Angeles Kings, New York Islanders and San Jose Sharks during his NHL career spanning from 1981 to 1998.

Okotoks Nissan is located at 100 Woodgate Rd.
