James E. Powell
1943-2025
James E. Powell, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, at The Orchards of East Liverpool. Born on Dec. 9, 1943, in Smithfield, W.Va., the son of the late James A. and Emily G. (Stout) Powell. He was 81 years old.
James was a proud graduate of East Liverpool High School and carried the values learned there throughout his life. He dedicated nearly four decades of his career to the General Motors Lordstown plant, working diligently in assembly and other various positions from its opening until his well-earned retirement in 2010.
James was an active member of Northside Community Church in East Liverpool. His love for his community was matched only by his passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he was known to be an avid fan who rarely missed a game.
James was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Herman Powell, Izetta O’Hanlon, Dorothy Adkins, Hazel Powell and Mona Douglas.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are: his wife of 58 years, Lora (Hall) Powell, whom he married on July 22, 1966; his sons, James E. Powell Jr., of New Cumberland, and Steven R. Powell, of East Liverpool; his brother Charles Powell and sister Dolores “June” Foden. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Tanya Powell, Anthony Powell, and Abaigeal Powell; his sister-in-law, Miriam “Mim” Caplinger; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the same location, with Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Community Church officiating.
