Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co has become a B Corporation (B Corp) - the first Scottish food wholesaler and only the third UK food wholesaler to achieve the recognition.

Verified by non-profit organisation B Lab, the certification was achieved due to the family firm's commitment to social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, alongside a dedication to balancing profit with purpose.

B Corp assesses the full scope of a company’s operations, including governance, workers, community, the environment and customers. The process requires businesses to provide evidence of positive impact, while embedding a commitment to these values into legal structures.

Anne McDonald, Lomond’s director of technical and health and safety, said: “The result is not just a testament to the skills and hard work of all the team, but of Lomond’s unwavering commitment to be better in all aspects of our business.

“We are honoured to be part of the B Corp family and look forward to a positive future of continual improvement bringing benefit to our people, the community and the planet.”

Lomond aims to source local and sustainable ingredients for its product range, helping to reduce its environmental footprint and contribute to the growth of local economies.

Cake, the manufacturing company owned by Lomond, also achieved B Corp certification.

“Together, we are advancing a shared mission of promoting food sustainability and ethical practices across the supply chain,” said Sam Henderson, Lomond managing director. “The ethos and thinking behind this global standard align with our own views on being a profitable business that also upholds its social and environmental responsibilities.“

Lomond is now one of more than 9,500 businesses globally that have achieved B Corp certification.

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, added: “This is a movement of companies committed to changing how business operates and proving that business can truly be a force for good.

“We are confident that Lomond Wholesale will be a fantastic addition to this community and will continue to drive meaningful change.”
