Braves lose to Tigers in Spring Breakout game showcasing top prospects
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Braves lost to the Detroit Tigers in Sunday’s Spring Breakout game in North Port, which showcased top prospects from both teams.
This game marked the sixth of 10 Braves spring training broadcasts on Gray Television this season.
Unlike a typical spring training matchup, Sunday’s game featured top prospects from both Atlanta and Detroit, while each team’s major leaguers were playing games against Toronto and Baltimore, respectively.
But at CoolToday Park, Braves prospects Drew Compton and Will Verdung each drove in RBIs, while starting pitcher JR Ritchie allowed two runs over three innings of work.
19-year-old pitching prospect Didier Fuentes struck out seven Tigers in three innings of work. He allowed just one hit.

Strider set to make spring debut
Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider is set to make his spring debut on Monday against the Boston Red Sox.
It will be his first appearance since April 5, 2024, as Strider has been recovering from an elbow injury that kept him sidelined for most of the 2024 season. He is expected to remain out until May of this upcoming season.
Strider has compiled a 3.47 ERA and 495 strikeouts over 328.2 career innings.
Braves cut roster down to 39
The Atlanta Braves announced a series of roster moves on Sunday that cut the spring training camp roster down to 39.
Atlanta reassigned LHP Jake Diekman, RHP Buck Farmer, C Curt Casali and OF Jake Marisnick to minor league camp.
Diekman and Farmer were fighting for bullpen spots, while Casali was working toward a spot on the roster as a backup catcher. With Sean Murphy out with a broken rib, Casali was battling with Drake Baldwin, Chadwick Tromp and Sandy Leon for that catcher spot.
The Braves need to cut the roster down to 26 players before Opening Day on March 27 in San Diego.
