UPDATES: Powerful overnight storms damage communities across metro Atlanta, north Georgia
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Significant weather worked its way through metro Atlanta and north Georgia Saturday into early Sunday morning, leaving behind damage in its wake.
The tornado threat has ended for all of metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Sunday
5:25 p.m. | At least one tornado touched down in Paulding County, the NWS confirmed. The worst damage was in the Windale Road area near Hwy 278 and Hwy 61.
5:09 p.m. | Atlanta News First reporter Chelsea Beimfohr takes a closer look at the damage at a home on Chase Way in Dallas, Georgia.





11:58 a.m. | The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office confirms that 14 homes were impacted by trees due to the storms, and 12,000 people are still without power.

9:58 a.m. | More than 38,000 customers are still without power in Georgia.
9:38 a.m. | The National Weather Service in Atlanta says the Paulding County/Dallas area will be surveyed Sunday afternoon.
8:10 a.m. | As the sun rises, destruction can be seen in storm-ridden communities across north Georgia. A Waffle House sign in Dallas, Georgia, stands tall with some visible damage.
7:31 a.m. | Residents in Paulding County are waking up to downed trees and power lines.
The following roads remain closed:
- Riverwood Drive at East Paulding Drive
- Villa Rica Highway at Winndale Road
- Bobo Road at Folsom Extension
- Graham Road at Gun Range Road

6:14 a.m. | At least 32 dead across U.S. after massive storm system brings tornadoes, destructive wind, flooding
5:48 a.m. | Damage reports are starting to come in. In Paulding County, several power lines and trees are down. The Paulding County sheriff took to social media to urge residents to be careful, noting the area suffered “significant damage.”





5:00 a.m. | Severe storms rolled through overnight with multiple tornado warnings and lots of damage across the area. First Alert Meteorologist Ella Dorsey has your 5AM First Alert Weather Day update.
4:17 a.m. | The tornado threat has ended for the Atlanta News First viewing area.
4:15 a.m. | Several counties were removed from the tornado watch. Greene, Oglethorpe and Putnam counties remain in the watch until 10 a.m.
4:13 a.m. | The tornado warning for Putnam County has been canceled.
3:59 a.m. | A tornado warning has been issued for Putnam County until 4:30 a.m.
3:30 a.m. | Severe weather in Paulding County led to a gas station awning flipping over and onto a convenience store.

3:06 a.m. | 88,052 Georgians are without power or experiencing power outages.
3 a.m. | The tornado watch has ended for metro Atlanta.
2:19 a.m. | A tornado watch remains in effect for Clayton, DeKalb, Fayette, Gwinnett, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Rockdale, Spalding and Upson counties until 4 a.m.

2:15 a.m. | A tornado watch has been issued for Barrow, Butts, Clarke, Greene, Jasper, Morgan, Netwon, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam and Walton counties until 10 a.m.
2 a.m. | Roof damage and debris were reported at a Kroger on Nathan Dean Boulevard in Dallas.

1:18 a.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Meriwether and Troup counties until 2 a.m.
1 a.m. | The tornado warning for Chattooga, Fannin, Gilmer, Gordon and Pickens counties has expired.
12:55 a.m. | Multiple downed trees were reported on Mount Tabor Church Road in Paulding County.

12:46 a.m. | First Alert Meterologist Rodney Harris says the line of storms moving through the area is producing strong winds.
12:36 a.m. | The severe thunderstorm warnings that were in effect have been canceled.
12:26 a.m. | The tornado warning for Randolph County, Alabama has been canceled.
12:20 a.m. | A downed tree was reported at Camp Valley and Benidorm Court, according to the South Fulton Police Department.
12:15 a.m. | Thousands are already without power as storms start to move through metro Atlanta, according to Georgia Power. In Fulton County, over 16,000 customers are without power. In DeKalb County, over 4,000 customers are without power. >> POWER OUTAGE MAP
12:06 a.m. | Tornado warning issued for Randolph County, Alabama until midnight central time.
12:02 a.m. | The tornado warning has been canceled for Cherokee, Cobb and Paulding counties.
Saturday
11:58 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, Floyd, Haralson, Paulding, Pickens and Polk counties until 12:30 a.m.
11:48 p.m. | A tornado warning has been issued for Cherokee, Cobb and Paulding counties until 12:15 a.m.
11:40 p.m. | A new severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Carroll, Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties until 12:30 a.m.
11:22 p.m. | First Alert Meteorologist Cutter Martin is currently in Douglasville, tracking the storms.
10:58 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Bartow, Carroll, Cobb, Douglas, Floyd, Fulton, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding and Polk counties until midnight. 60 mph winds are possible as the storm is moving at 70 mph to the east.
10:38 p.m. | Numerous power outages have been reported across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. As of 10:38 p.m., Bartow County has 1,133 customers affected, Fulton County has 916 customers affected and Cobb County has 555 customers affected.
9:22 p.m. | The warning for Fannin County has expired.
9:14 p.m. | Gilmer County was removed from the tornado warning. The warning is still in effect for Fannin County until 9:30 p.m.
9 p.m. | A tornado warning has been issued for Gilmer and Fannin counties until 9:30 p.m.
8:55 p.m. | A tornado watch has been issued for several counties until 4 a.m. Those counties are Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Paulding, Pike, Polk, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup and Upson.

8:51 p.m. | A tornado warning has been issued for Cleburne County, Alabama, which is close to the Georgia state line.
8:28 p.m. | A tornado watch is expected for west Georgia within the next hour.

12:30 p.m. | Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency ahead of the storms. The order gives emergency officials permission to mobilize extra resources and ends at midnight next Tuesday. Read more.
11:30 a.m. | A Flood Watch is in effect for several north Georgia mountain counties. 2″-4″ of rain is expected in this area, with a few higher totals possible.
