Saint Patrick's Day weekend offers up 39 things to do in Rockford

Letโ€™s Sing Taylor: A Live Band Experience Celebrating Taylor Swift

What: Let's Sing Taylor: A Live Band Experience - is the ultimate tribute to the music of Taylor Swift. Calling all Swifties: sing your hearts out and sport your Taylor inspired attire.

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14

Paranormal Tour with the Illinois Paranormalists

What: Come for scintillating tales from paranormal experts, listen to audio clips found in the Tinker Cottage and enjoy a tour, with the chance to have your own paranormal encounter. Each event begins in the Barn.

Rockford IceHogs

What: It's another $2 beer Friday, featuring select $2 cans of beer or 12-ounce soft drinks available at concession areas through the end of the second intermission. It's also another Screw City Night. The IceHogs will wear Screw City jerseys and fans can shop for all new Screw City merchandise as the Hogs pay homage to Rockford's rich manufacturing history. The IceHogs will also pay tribute to boy bands Backstreet, New Kids and N'Sync with boy band music and in-game activities throughout the night. Their opponent Friday is the Hartford Wolf Pack. Saturday, the Hogs play Grand Rapids Griffins in a St. Paddyโ€™s Celebration.

SpongeBob SquarePants The Musical

What: Plunge into this all-singing, all-dancing stage show. When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up.

When: 7 p.m. Friday, March 14; 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16

Tower of Power

What: For more than 55 years, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music.

What: This class will include instruction for basic piping and flooding techniques. Leave with six of your own decorated cookies. No experience necessary. Learn tips and tricks on how to achieve beautifully decorated cookies. All supplies will be provided (including a box to take home your creations).

What: There will be live performances by Ginja Jesus, Fish Head & The Bones & Super Brick. Third Annual Saint Patrickโ€™s Fundraiser

What: Join Rockford area dance fitness instructors for a dance fitness party. All proceeds from event will go to Region A Special Olympics Illinois.

Annual Corned Beef (or ham) and Cabbage for a Cause

What: In celebration of Saint Patrick's Day, this classic Irish dish will be prepared by Maryโ€™s Place Custom Catering. Meal cost includes corned beef (or ham), cabbage, potatoes, carrots and dessert. Carryout orders are also available by calling 815-601-5124 the day of the event. A portion of proceeds will benefit Beloit Meals on Wheels.

Saint Paddyโ€™s at Prairie Street

What: This family-friendly event invites the community to keep the Saint Patrickโ€™s Day festivities going after the annual downtown parade with live entertainment, Irish-inspired food and drinks, and activities for all ages. Guests can enjoy live music in the Barrel Room, a DJ spinning in the Bottling House, a dedicated kidsโ€™ area and more. Traditional Irish fare and Prairie Streetโ€™s locally brewed craft beer will be available for purchase.

Animal Rescue Expo

What: Rockford's inaugural charitable Animal Rescue Expo will feature exhibitors and entertainment. Full-service restaurant, bar and concessions are available onsite. Shop for pet supplies and services, learn about wildlife and farm rescue and maybe even adopt a new rescue friend. Bring a bag of dog/cat food for raffle tickets to be used for gift baskets.

Saint Patrickโ€™s Day Party

What: Enjoy Irish food and drink specials, giveaways and raffles. Come dressed in green ready to celebrate. Raffles and donations will benefit A Mother's Love in Loves Park, supporting women and families in need, in honor of National Women's Month.

Explore the park and search for animal tracks. Take a guided trek around the park and learn to identify the tracks and signs of local wildlife. Discover the hidden world of animal tracks together. All ages are welcome.

This event is sponsored by RockN Vodka. The bus runs continuously throughout the event. The first 50 participants get a pub crawl t-shirt and there will be giveaways throughout the day.

St. Pawddyโ€™s Day

What: Bring your furry family member for a Saint Patrick's Day celebration. What: Enjoy traditional Irish music by Bucktooth Sugarbush, with DJTurn1 taking over at 10 p.m. There will be corned beef and cabbage dinners, Reuben sandwiches and Reuben eggrolls available, plus specialty cocktails. Show up in your best green to win giveaways for Best Dressed.

Shamrock Beer Run/Walk 5k

What: Get active (or just have fun) while bringing joy to young adults and their loved ones who are battling cancer. Whether you're running, walking, or crawling, this event is all about enjoying yourself while supporting Nikโ€™s Wish. Don't forget to wear your best Irish attire. Visit beer stations along the course to help you run, walk or crawl to the finish line. There is a post-race celebration with cold brews, a silent auction and a 50-foot-long shotski. All registered participants get a souvenir beer glass, Shamrock Beer Run T-shirt and an event medal for completing the course. Five local craft breweries are featured along the course route, so participants receive an (optional) three-ounce sample from each brewery and are greeted with a pint of their favorite at the finish line.

Saint Patrickโ€™s Acoustic Showcase

What: Enjoy music from five 815-area music groups performing in one spot. Get some corned beef here as well.

The Funeral March โ€œIt All Falls Apartโ€ EP Release Party

What: Join The Funeral March of the Marionettes and special guests TATV GRAL, [melter], Bellhead and William Faith to celebrate the release of It All Falls Apart, the final EP from Rockford's original post-punk/Goth rock band. Formed in 1987, The Funeral March blends the sounds of Bowie, Bauhaus, The Cure, and Joy Division to create their own brand of dark alternative music. The band was resurrected after a hiatus in 2017 by founding member Joe Whiteaker; however Joe died in May 2024 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Even during the struggles of cancer treatment, he had been making plans to release the record and go on tour to promote it. This event is tribute to Joe's legacy and the music he shared. Bassist Darius McCaskey, guitarist Jeff Goins, drummer Joel DeLuna and guest vocalists will be performing as The Funeral March of the Marionettes for this final show to play the EP in its entirety. This is an all-ages show with refreshments available from Prairie Street Brewing Company. Must be at least 21 for alcohol.

What: The parade will start at RPS 205 District Building at Seventh Street and Fifth Avenue, Rockford. It will continue west down State Street and end at Water Street.

Maple Syrup Hike and Pancake Breakfast

What: Enjoy a morning immersed in nature and learn the process of making maple syrup. Hear about the history and techniques of tapping trees, collecting sap and turning it into syrup. Take a guided hike through the woodlands, then cozy up by the fire at the lodge for a pancake breakfast topped with locally-sourced maple syrup.

What: Hang with 104.9 The X as they broadcast live from Jax all morning. Once the run is done, stick around for the costume contest for a chance to win concert tickets, the scavenger hunt and more. The green flag drops at 11 a.m. for the race. The race swag bag is loaded with the official Saint Patrickโ€™s Day .1K beer stein from Tilfordโ€™s Towing and Recovery, the limited-edition event t-shirt, a .1K bumper sticker, a race bib, a medal to prove you made it all 328 feet from Eldridge Roofing and more. A portion of proceeds will go to help the Friends of The Rockford Police K9 continue to do everything they can to support the K9 units.

Tinkers Ball at Memorial Hall

What: Join Tinker Swiss Cottage for a night of elegance and history as you are transported to the Victorian Era in this Civil War-themed Ball. Saint Patrickโ€™s Sunday Matinee

What: Continuing an annual tradition, the Concerts on The Creek series is partnering with The Irish Marching Society for two hours of inspiration and fun featuring seasonal songs in the Celtic tradition. Performers include Danny McDade, Emerald Wind and Trinadora. There is no admission charge, but goodwill donations from the audience pay the musicians and help defray hosting costs. 

When: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 16 (doors open at 2 p.m.)

A Brunch of Drag

What: The event will be hosted by La Mira. Performing divas include Ja'Nyiah Mone' Diamond Banx$, current Mister Office Arsen, Star and finalist of Season 666 of Boulet Brothers' Dragula, Auntie Heroine and a surprise guest. The professionally catered all-you-can-eat brunch buffet includes fried chicken, mostaccioli, cheesy potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruits, muffins, pastries and other desserts. Bottomless Mimosas and additional drinks available at the cash bar. Seating is limited; advance purchase is encouraged.

Annual St. Josephโ€™s Altar

What: Partake in the festive traditional meal of meatless pasta, omelets, vegetables and Italian pastries. The St. Joseph Altar is an ancient Sicilian tradition that originated when the poor peasants of the impoverished island faced a famine due to drought and prayed to St. Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary and protector of the Holy Family, for intercession.  When the rains came and the famine ended, a tradition began. In gratitude, foods were prepared and distributed to the poor of Sicily.
