Macy’s shoppers spot liquidation at popular store after chain admits 66 locations will shut – exact locations revealed

A STAPLE Macy's store at a popular mall has begun liquidation sales as it joins a list of 66 to shutter early this year.
Some customers have been saddened by the impending closure, as it's the second department store chain to leave the area recently.
Residents in Newark, California, about 19 miles northwest of downtown San Jose, will no longer be able to shop at the Macy's in Newpark Mall soon.
While an official closure date has yet to be confirmed, the Macy's within the mall will exit not long after a JCPenney also fled amid financial woes after filing for bankruptcy in 2020.
"It's so sad," local consumer Carol Nelson said while speaking with the Tri-City Voice in December.
"We lost our JCPenney and now we're losing our Macy's."
A post on Facebook in January from a shopper also showed liquidation sale signs all over the multi-floor store, with discounts as high as 50% off.
Some signs also noted that "everything must go."
Other Newark-area Macy's customers like Annette Devincenzi called the Newpark Mall location her "go-to," noting she could "always find something" to buy.
Similarly, customers in Mesa, Arizona, were recently hit with the update that the Macy's within the Superstition Springs Center mall would shut down soon, per The Mesa Tribune.
No official closure date has been confirmed yet.
Unlike the Newpark Mall, the Superstition Springs Center still houses other department stores like JCPenney and Dillards.
A Sears was previously there as well but vacated in 2018 after the former retail powerhouse filed for bankruptcy that year.
In Maplewood, Minnesota, about 15 miles east of downtown Minneapolis, a Macy's also confirmed earlier this month that it would be closing its doors in a few weeks and has begun final deals and sales.
This was also the case for a Salem, Oregon, location, which will shutter by the end of March.
The mass shutdowns for Macy's come as part of its Bold New Chapter initiative.

To update and modernize its retail footprint, Macy's is axing 150 locations in total by the end of 2026.
At least 66 will close this year, an amount increased twice over the past year after it started at 50.
CEO Tony Spring said the confirmed number was reached not only because the locations were deemed "less productive," but because their closures would bring in about $600 to $700 million that Macy's could later re-invest in updates and its soon-to-be-opened 30 smaller-format stores.
It's part of the Bold New Chapter's "opportunity to reimagine the Macy's Inc. portfolio" in the coming years.
About 350 current Macy's locations will be remodeled in the Bold New Chapter, with 50 having already begun the process, according to Spring's comments at the National Federation's Big Show in New York City earlier this month.
Additionally, 15 Bloomingdales and 30 Bluemercury stores are expected to be added by the end of 2026.
The CEO has said that Macy's shopping experience "can and should be better" for consumers as a motivating factor behind its actions.
Fortunately for some customers, Spring also quelled rumors recently that a popular Manhattan location would be closing as part of the plan.
A Macy's employee also faced consequences recently for allegedly hiding $154 million in expenses by making accounting mistakes "on purpose."
