June 11, 2010 (FinancialWire) — China Medical Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMED), a China-based in-vitro diagnostic company, said that it has received approval for its SPR-based HPV-DNA chip from the State Food and Drug Administration of China.

Human papillomavirus is a common virus that infects the skin and mucous membranes of humans and causes various kinds of warts as well as cervical cancer.

According to China Medical, the HPV Chip can detect genotypes that are at high as well as low risk for the virus by placing a patient's sample on one chip and processing the chip by the company's SPR analyzer.

The HPV Chip can also distinguish multiple HPV infection as well as determine the viral load which are all important for physicians to recommend treatment for patients.

According to the Ministry of Health in China, around 70 million gynecological check-ups were conducted in 2008.
