On January 26, 2016, FirstMerit announced it had entered a merger agreement wherein Huntington Bancshares, Inc. would acquire all the outstanding shares of FirstMerit for 1.72 shares of Huntington common stock and $5.00 in cash per share of FirstMerit common stock.
