Tuesday’s market movers
U.S. indexes closed mostly flat on Tuesday with the S&P 500 extending closing losses to a fifth day. Losses in China affected equities across the globe. Five Dow Jones companies reported earnings, including: 3M (MMM, Financial), Caterpillar (CAT, Financial), McDonald's (MCD), United Technologies (UTX) and Verizon (VZ). Asbury Automotive Group (ASG) topped the list of earnings gainers, beating expectations by 20% and gaining 11% for the day.
There were no major reports on the economic calendar Tuesday. The Treasury held auctions for the following: four-week bills at a rate of 2.180%, two-year notes at a rate of 2.880%. In the S&P 500, energy and industrials led losses.
