New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady has vowed not to make another "mental error' after his uncharacteristic fumble against Kansas City Chiefs.

The 41-year-old made the "bad play" in the third quarter of the Pats' 43-40 win over the Chiefs on Sunday.

He tried to roll right while dodging pass rushers, but was mobbed by Chiefs defenders as he looked for a receiver.

Eventually, he fumbled the ball and the Chiefs scored moments later.

Speaking on WEEI's Kirk and Callahan , he said: “It is just a mental error,”

“For me to roll right and avoid the guy, and swing the ball around really with no chance to complete it. I had Julian on the sideline, I just didn’t see him.

"Usually when you roll right you just have to keep rolling right and try and make a good throw.

"To stop and move around with all the bodies coming, it just was really a mental mistake, which I am not going to have any more of those this year. I won’t do anything like that again.”

The day didn't end too badly for Brady, who finished up with 340 yards and two touchdowns.

He didn't make any other turnovers during the match.

In the dying minutes of the game, he went error-free putting the Patriots in position for an easy chip-shot field goal.

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski converted the field goal with ease.

Brady, who remains a consistent performer at 41, is one of only two players to win five Super Bowls and the only player to win them all playing for one team.

After the game, Brady was caught on camera telling Chiefs' tight end Rob Gronkowski: "We're playing forever".

Brady has repeatedly said he'd like to play until he's 45.

Gronkowski, 29, spoke recently about how close he had come to retiring from playing in the off-season.
