Russia prepares sanctions against individuals and legal entities in Ukraine

Russia is preparing a list of sanctions against several hundred individuals and about a hundred legal entities in Ukraine, Kommersant has reported, citing sources in the Russian presidential administration.

"Individuals mean 'businesspersons, politicians and civil servants.' One of the measures will be the blocking of their assets in the Russian Federation and a ban on the withdrawal of capital," the report says.

According to the report, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Finance by August 1 should prepare proposals on goods imported from Ukraine, against which restrictive measures can be applied.

As reported, the updated lists of persons who came under personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) were published on the website of the Ukrainian president on May 24, 2018. According to them, 1,748 individuals and 756 legal entities are subject to sanctions. A year ago, the list consisted of 1,228 individuals and 468 legal entities.

New individuals on the list include Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, billionaires Oleg Deripaska, Igor Rotenberg, Suleyman Kerimov, Vladimir Bogdanov, Viktor Vekselberg, and VTB Bank Chairman Andrey Kostin, who were subject to U.S. sanctions in early April 2018.
