Possible workplace shooting thwarted at Tyson Foods

HENDERSON - Sheriff's personnel responded Thursday to a report at Tyson Foods that a man was on the way "to shoot and kill a man."

Christopher Hancock, 42, of Madisonville, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and lodged at the Henderson County Detention Center. As of Friday morning, there was no bond.

According to a news release, at about 2:16 p.m. deputies from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office responded to Tyson Foods at U.S. 41-South located in Henderson County after being told that Hancock was supposed to arrive at 4 p.m. to confront a man that he believed to be having an affair with his wife.

"Deputies arrived in the area and set up surveillance. A short while later deputies spotted Hancock turn into the drive leading to Tyson Foods. Deputies attempted to stop Hancock who attempted to go around deputies and was blocked by another deputy. When deputies searched Hancock, they located a loaded 9 mm (firearm) on his person."

During their investigation, deputies found that Hancock had posted on social media making threats to kill his wife and the other man.

"Deputies also found that Hancock had assaulted and held his wife in their residence, located in Hopkins County, not allowing her to make phone calls the night prior to this incident. Deputies interviewed witnesses who confirmed that Hancock had stated he was doing to shoot and kill" the other man.

In the vehicle at the time of his arrest was Hancock's two minor children and his wife.
