Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, in collaboration with The Hindu, is organising a webinar on “Iron’s role in health and disease” at 11.30 a.m. on March 30. This is the seventh session in the 15-part webinar series launched on the theme “Prevent Illness, Promote Wellness”.

The session seeks to provide insights into the role of iron in human health, the serious consequences of iron deficiency and iron overload, and essential guidance on preventing these conditions to maintain overall well-being.

During the webinar, Mammen Chandy, senior consultant, physician, and haematologist, Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore will discuss the vital role of iron in human physiology. He will also talk about the National Nutritional Anaemia Prophylaxis Programme and suggest ways to enhance its effectiveness. Mathumithra, consultant haematologist, Naruvi Hospitals, will provide an overview of iron deficiency in adults, its causes, diagnosis and treatment.

Revathi Raj, senior consultant and paediatric haematologist, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai will speak on iron deficiency in women and children. She will also highlight the importance of iron for growth and development as well as dietary sources of iron. Ramya Uppaluri, consultant paediatric haematologist, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, will speak on the body’s challenges in eliminating excess iron and look at the causes and management of iron overload.
