WP: Ty Woods

Woods and Josh Long combined for 13 strikeouts. Patrick Dudley went 4 for 5 with a solo home run in the top of the 11th for the Seahawks.

Bay Rivers District

Poquoson 1, Tabb 0

Defending Class 2 state champion Poquoson managed just one hit but earned its first victory of the season, thanks to Eli Tyndall’s right arm in a home win over Tabb.

The Islanders (1-1) put four runners on base via walks the first three innings, but were hitless and scoreless against Tabb starter Blake Shafer. When Eli Monroe led off the fourth inning by reaching on an error, the Islanders took advantage to score their only run of the day.

Monroe advanced when Tyler Martin singled for the Islanders’ only hit. After Christian Leonard was hit by a pitch, Monroe scored on John Rainone’s none-out sacrifice fly to center field.

Tyndall, a VMI-bound right-hander, scattered six singles and struck out seven. Jake Mutter and Jaden Farley had two hits each for the Tigers (1-1).

Bruton 11, Northampton 3

Ryan Hazelwood recorded 10 strikeouts for the Panthers. Ty Yates belted a three-run home run.

Indian River 12, Manor 2

WP: Ace Chambers

Sophomore Riley Ming and senior Logan Riley each recorded home runs for the Braves, with Riley earning a double. Sophomore Ace Chambers pitched all five innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight. Sophomore Kalvin Murphy added two hits and a double.

Norview 13, Norfolk Collegiate 3

WP: Johnny Moore; LP: Jay Zimmerman

Moore pitched four innings and allowed no earned runs, two hits and two strikeouts. Moore also added a triple, one run and an RBI. Landon Otero and Philip Mason drove in two runs each.

Western Branch 3, Kellam 2

Carter Walter provided a walk-off hit in the seventh for the Bruins, scoring his brother Jakson Walter. The Knights led 2-0 after two innings.

Private schools

Catholic 5, Norfolk Christian 4

WP: Chase Ridge (2-0); LP: Colby Payne.

Ridge was 3 for 3 at the plate and pitched six innings, striking out four. Carson Norton, Connor Thompson and Stone Soleau added hits for the Crusaders.

#2 Kellam 6, #8 Granby 1

WP: Avonlea Flanagan

Flanagan pitched a complete game for the Knights, striking out 13 and allowing only one run. Flanagan also went 2 for 4 at the plate. Carson Schakel went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run in her first at-bat. Alexis Hejnal led the Comets, going 2 for 3.

#10 Western Branch 13, Bayside 1

Marissa Bernheimer drove in four runs on three hits, including a two-run home run. Ashley Matthews, Anna Kerns and Kendall Edmondson each had two hits. Ava Giacometti picked up her second win for the Bruins.

#12 Deep Creek 12, #15 Menchville 1

WP: Lily Barham (3-0)

Payton Stewart went 2 for 3 with four runs batted in. Barham struck out four to secure the victory for the Hornets.

Non-district

Green Run 22, Indian River 1

Chyann Soule surrendered no hits with nine strikeouts while driving in three runs. Jade Zabala went 2 for 2 and Rylee McLawhorn drove in three runs for the dominant Stallions.

Manor 8, Denbigh 6

WP: Makenzi Lafave

Ciah Leinart went 5 for 5 and excelled in relief. Lafave recorded six strikeouts before an injury in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 9, Norfolk Collegiate 5

Sarah Carson led the Saints with two goals and two assists. Taylor Bradshaw and Eleanor Smith Jones each scored twice as well. Kasey Rountree contributed one goal and two assists.

Preston Ramsey scored the Grizzlies’ first goal with an assist from Will Becker in the 38th minute. Carter Goetz tied the score with an assist by Andy Mbandu Muepu. Connor Farmer secured the win for Grassfield 27 minutes into the second half with a goal, assisted by Colin Hughes.

Beach District

Ocean Lakes 3, Kempsville 2, OT

Jeffrey Paul placed a shot high and to the far side of the net to score in the 88th minute and secure the win for the Dolphins in overtime. Bryce Phillips and Taden Domanski led the defense, while Zak Kain-Kuzniewski and Kaden Pratt played consistently in the midfield.

Deep Creek 1, Granby 0

The Hornets shut out the Comets.

Indian River 5, Norcom 2

Senior Gabe Naselli led the Braves with two goals. Freshman Isaac Warren, senior Kipp Harris and freshman Kamari Hemmings added to the scoreboard as well. Indian River will face Green Run on Thursday.

Maddie Leach and Sarah Cash each tallied hat tricks for the Monarchs. Rory Patchett contributed three assists and Alyssa Ware added two.

Salem 9, Norview 0

Arianna Fong earned a hat trick for the SunDevils. Adriene Bethune and Lauren Wyatt followed with two goals each. Goalkeeper Heidi Cooley secured the clean sheet.

Veritas School 3, Hampton Roads Academy 1

The Richmond-area Lions won, though Madison Davis scored in the second half for the Navigators.

Great Bridge 7, Currituck (N.C.) 2

Ahmadou Diawara and Grant Sturgeon won in singles and as partners in doubles for the Wildcats in their season opener. Mason Hill and Kai Field also won in doubles and singles. JP Zano won at No. 1 singles.
