Senegal’s AFCON-winning coach Aliou Cissé takes charge of Libya national team

The Libyan Football Federation has appointed Aliou Cissé as the new head coach of the national team, according to a statement posted on the federation’s Facebook page on Tuesday.
Cissé, 48, who led Senegal to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2022 and is widely regarded as one of the continent’s premier coaches, has agreed to a contract that will run until 2027.
“We welcome the best coach in Africa,” the federation declared in its statement, though no details were provided regarding the financial terms of Cissé’s contract.
The Senegalese manager replaces Nasser Al-Hadhiri, who had been appointed in September 2024. Cissé will be officially presented to the media on 13 March in Tripoli before commencing his duties.
Libya failed to qualify for the upcoming AFCON tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco next winter. However, they currently occupy second place in their World Cup qualifying group and are set to face Angola later this month.
