Share Market Highlights 12 March 2025: Sensex, Nifty settle marginally lower; IndusInd Bank gains over 4%

“In February 2025, equity net inflows declined by 26% to ₹29,303 crore, marking a 10-month low. Despite this dip, the market has sustained positive inflows for 48 consecutive months, reflecting continued investor confidence. Notably, large-cap funds saw a slight decline but held up relatively better than other categories, indicating investors’ preference for stability amid market volatility.”

The agreements between India’s tech giants Airtel and Jio, and SpaceX offer a great opportunity to service India’s dense rural populations with affordable access to internet services. This can transform these areas’ access to education, healthcare and other economic opportunities that connectivity can bring. It can also bring competitive pressure on pricing in a sector dominated by Jio and Airtel, whilst increasing the market growth potential in India’s satellite and broadband market, positioning India as a key player in global satellite internet adoption.

For the US, it strengthens SpaceX’s global footprint into one of the world’s largest internet markets. It also helps deepen US-India relations including in the tech sector, strategically moving them ahead of China who are developing their own satellite constellations, and countering Chinese tech dominance in the Indo-Pacific region.

It could also pave the way for further US investment into India’s telecom sector and increase demand in India for American technology.

One hurdle facing this agreement is obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals from the Indian government, which has previously presented challenges for foreign companies. However, recent high-level talks and India’s willingness to engage in proactive high-level discussions about future agreements should provide confidence that this can be approved.

Generative AI (GenAI) is reshaping India’s financial services landscape, driving significant advancements in customer engagement, operational efficiency, and risk assessment. The EY report titled “How much productivity can GenAI unlock in India? The AIdea of India: 2025”, highlights that GenAI is poised to improve productivity levels of Indian financial services by 34% to 38%[1] by 2030 and up to 46%, specifically for banking operations.

The EY study reveals that 74% of financial firms have initiated proof-of-concept projects, and 11% have moved to production-level deployments. Investment in GenAI is also increasing, with 42% of organizations actively allocating budgets toward AI initiatives. They are rapidly adopting GenAI across key areas such as voice bots, email automation, business intelligence, and workflow automation.

Customer service is the top priority, with 68% of firms prioritizing it for GenAI implementation, followed by operations (47%), underwriting (32%), sales (26%), and IT (21%). These investments are already delivering measurable results: 63% have seen improved customer satisfaction levels, while 58% of firms report cost reductions.

Total stocks traded were 4,075. The number of stocks that recorded a 52-week high was 54, and those that hit a 52-week low was 257. A total of 186 stocks traded in the upper circuit, and 276 in the lower circuit.

Zydus Lifesciences Limited announced today it has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture Methenamine Hippurate Tablets USP, 1 gram. The medication, which is the generic equivalent of Hiprex Tablets, is used for the prophylactic or suppressive treatment of frequently recurring urinary tract infections.

The shares of Zydus Lifesciences Limited were trading at ₹883.50 down by ₹16.35 or 1.82 per cent on the NSE today at 2.45 pm.

Fitch Ratings - Singapore - 12 Mar 2025: Fitch Ratings has affirmed India-based port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited’s (APSEZ) Long-Term Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at ‘BBB-’ and removed it from Rating Watch Negative (RWN). The Outlook is Negative. 

The rating affirmation follows the demonstration of adequate funding access by the Adani group following the US indictment of certain board members of another group entity, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), on 20 November 2024.

We believe the risk associated with the group’s liquidity and funding requirements has moderated. However, the Negative Outlook reflects our view that the proceedings and outcome of the US investigations could reveal further weaknesses in the group’s corporate governance practices, which may lead to negative rating action in the near to medium term. Fitch will monitor the investigations for any evidence of weakness in the entities’ governance practices and internal controls, and the impact on APSEZ’s financial flexibility.

“Continuous monthly market correction has led to slowdown of the sales for the first time in Feb, this could also be partially attributed to a truncated month. Allocations are being tilted towards Multi Asset Allocation, Large and Flexi categories. Investors are being cautious in allocations and may postpone or stagger in near future. Having said so, net sales of 30k cr is also a pretty healthy and the broader sentiment looks optimistic long term wealth creation perspective.”

Power Finance Corporation board has approved raising of resources for FY25-26 through Bonds, Term loans, Commercial Paper (CP) etc. from domestic & international markets, aggregating to ₹1.40 lakh crore.

It has also approved a change in name of the company from ‘Power Finance Corporation Limited” to ‘PFC Limited” or such other name as may be approved by RoC and declaration of a fourth interim dividend @ Rs3.50/-

Ramco Cements stock plunged 7% on the NSE to ₹794.85. Following the company’s appeal before CESTAT on this subject, it was remanded back to Original Authority, viz. Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, Tiruchirapalli, the Original Authority dropped further proceedings (order received by the company today). 

“The issue is resolved to extent of Rs.4.92 crores on this subject matter,” it said.

SEPC executes Framework Agreement with ROSHN Group Company, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to carry out infrastructure works in KSA. SEPC has bid for infrastructure works in 3 zones of Jeddah North, Phase 1A for about SAR 893 million (approximately INR 2200 crore). Based on the signing of a Framework Agreement, orders (Called – Call-off Orders) can be expected for a minimum of one zone, out of the three Zones.

The BSE Sensex tumbled 392.20 points or 0.53 per cent to 73,710.12 by 1 PM, while the NSE Nifty declined 132.50 points or 0.59 per cent to 22,365.40. The broader markets faced even steeper declines, with the Nifty Next 50 falling 620.40 points or 1.05 per cent, and the Nifty Midcap Select index plunging 202.80 points or 1.84 per cent.

Of a total of 3,879 stocks traded on the BSE at 12.05 pm on March 12, 2025, 1,284 advanced against 2,436 stocks that declined, and 159 remained unchanged. While 40 stocks recorded a 52-week high, 193 hit a 52-week low. A total of 135 stocks traded in the upper circuit, and 240 in the lower circuit.

ICRA projects its sample set of Indian IT services companies (which account for ~60% of the industry in revenueterms) to witness a moderate 4-6% revenue expansion in USD terms in FY2026. Further, ICRA anticipates attritionlevels to stabilise around the long-term average of 12-13% over the near term. Moreover, hiring is likely to remainlow until the growth momentum picks up by the end of FY2026. The operating profit margins (OPM) for the sampleset is expected to sustain at 22.5-23.0% over next three to four quarters. 

Zinc prices have been oscillating up and down in a narrow range over the last few days. The Zinc futures contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has been range-bound between ₹271 and ₹277 per kg over the last few days. Within this range, the contract is currently trading at ₹276 per kg.

Bharti Airtel shares rose 1.12 per cent on the NSE to ₹1,681.55 on signing an agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s High-Speed Internet to its customers in India. 

It also said that 69.94 per cent stake held in Airtel Payments Bank is being transferred to its wholly-owned subsidiary (Airtel Ltd).

Crude oil futures traded higher on Wednesday morning after US EIA’s (Energy Information Administration) monthly report forecasted a decline in global inventories in the first half of 2025. At 9.19 am on Wednesday, May Brent oil futures were at $70.03, up by 0.68 per cent, and April crude oil futures on WTI (West Texas Intermediate) were at $66.73, up by 0.72 per cent. March crude oil futures were trading at ₹5829 on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) during the initial hour of trading on Wednesday against the previous close of ₹5790, up by 0.67 per cent, and April futures were trading at ₹5824 against the previous close of ₹5789, up by 0.60 per cent.

Bharti Airtel said its shareholding of 69.94% held in Airtel Payments Bank is being transferred to its wholly owned subsidiary (Airtel Ltd), post receiving requisite regulatory and corporate approvals. The company said this is an internal reorganization of shareholding and has no impact on the ownership of the Bank.

Nifty50 displayed a strong reversal from its support levels and ended the day higher at 22,498. As expected, the index successfully defended the crucial support of 22,330, which remains pivotal in the near term. For further upward momentum, it needs to surpass the resistance zone between 22,620 and 22,730. On the other hand, BankNifty ended marginally lower, falling below the key 47,900 level, but formed a DOJI candlestick pattern, signaling indecision between bulls and bears. The revised resistance is at 48,130, while the new support is at 47,350. Not only the Realty segment but some of its components are also on the verge of providing a positive breakout (DLF, Godrej Properties, and Lodha). The Metal sector appears to have completed its pullback and is poised for an upward move, with stocks like JSL showing potential. In the Auto segment, besides from Tata Motors; TVS Motors is forming a Symmetrical Triangle pattern, suggesting strength. The Energy sector seems ready for a breakout from an Inverted Head & Shoulder pattern, signaling the end of its corrective phase and the beginning of a new trend, with BPCL and Reliance in focus. In Pharma, stocks like Alkem and Laurus Labs are expected to see stock-specific buying. Additionally, certain Railway stocks like IRFC, JWL, and Rites are indicating potential trend reversals, forming an Inverted Head & Shoulder pattern.
