Republic Day celebrated in Mangaluru, Udupi with nationalistic fervour

Mangaluru/Udupi: Republic Day was marked with nationalistic fervour in Mangaluru, Udupi on Thursday January 26.

The Republic Day celebration held patriotic fervour and eye-catching march past at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru. District-in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar unfurled the national flag and inspected guard of honour at the district level Republic Day celebrations organized here.

Sunil Kumar said, “The state government has planned to take up 7 drinking water projects for Dakshina Kannada at a cost of Rs 1,040 crore. The state government has taken up Jala Jivan Mission project at a cost of Rs 576 crore in three phases. The government will start MRF units at the cost of Rs 300 crore for the scientific disposal of dry waste. The unit will be opened today. The government has sanctioned Rs 92 crore for the development and maintenance of rural roads and Rs 5.35 crore for the construction work of Moodbidri taluk office. For the construction of the new building at Kadaba, the government has sanctioned Rs 4.50 crore. As part of the country's Amrit Mahostava of Independence, the government has sanctioned Rs 8 crore to improve the basic infrastructure like Amrit gram panchayat, Amrit Anganwadi, Amrit health, Amrit school, and Amrit self-help.

“The government has sanctioned Rs 18.02 crore under the chief minister's Raitha Vidyanidi programme for students,” he said. 

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, mayor Jayanand Anchan, deputy mayor Poornima, deputy commissioner M R Ravi Kumar, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, MLA Vedvyas Kamath, superintendent of police Rishikesh Sonawane and others were present.

Mangalore Motor Sports Association presented the 20th Vintage and Classic Car Carnival at the Republic Day celebration was a cynosure for the public who thronged to witness the Republic Day parade. Vintage and Classic Car Carnival was held under the slogan ‘Make old age a smile age’.

Later, it was followed by cultural programmes by school children of various schools.

Republic Day celebrations were held by the Udupi district administration at Ajjarkad ground. S Angara, district in-charge minister hoisted the flag and received the guard of honour.

In his address to the district minister said, "Dr B R Ambedkar has written our constitution with utmost experience, knowledge, and with an inclusiveness. Even though we speak about the fraternity, even today there are many differences between states. It may be border dispute, water dispute etc. We need to pledge that we will not allow any communal tensions to arise and live with tranquillity. Today on the 74th Republic Day of our nation, we need to introspect as to whether the wishes of our constitution are coming true. The global investment meet historically attracted an investment of Rs 9.8 lac crore and this will create more employment opportunities to our state people. The coastal belt of Karnataka state has been recognized as the best coastal belt by the central government. The state government has given importance to introducing science and technology with ease especially to the students of rural areas. The government is also supporting export of fish. For the first time in the nation under a joint venture of public private partnership, fresh fish is delivered to the door step of the consumers. Motorized fishing boats are being provided with tax free diesel facilities and 78,983 fishermen are covered under accidental insurance. As much as 8.56 kilometre river bank protection works are being undertaken in the district at a cost of Rs 38.96 crore. Under the Sagarmala project, Hangarkatta to Manipal waterway will be developed at a cost of Rs 2,500 lac and approval has been received for the project.”

Deputy commissioner Kurama Rao M was honoured for receiving the best district commissioner award by the electoral commission.

Achievers in the field of agriculture education were honoured on the occasion.

Dr GS Chandrashekar, managing director Adarsha Hospital Udupi was honoured by the district administration for providing a good medical facility to the Ayushman Bharath patients in the district.

Raghupathi Bhat, MLA Udupi, Hakay Akshay Machindra, police superintendent, Sumithra Nayak, CMC chief, Prasanna H, zilla panchayat CEO, and Manohar S Kalmady, president, Udupi city development authority were present.

    Sanctioned this sanctioned that blah blah blah he doesn't talk about 40 percent gulum. Today is republic day and this shud be the topic today. Pathetic to see these unpad crooks being saluted by educated people.

    all national day celebrations have lost their because of corrupt ministers and politicians showing off in such functions...we know that these people are not right in their behaviour and thoughts...but it is the tragedy of demo crazy..
