PATNA: A senior manager of Andhra Bank, Sandeep Kumar, was arrested by the anti-corruption branch (ACB) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting Rs50,000 as a bribe from one Chandan Kumar at the former’s residence in Bramhasthani Lane of Raja Bazaar locality in the city on Tuesday.
CBI, in a press release issued on Wednesday, stated that Kumar was posted in the legal cell of the bank’s zonal office on Exhibition Road and had allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from Chandan for one-time settlement of a loan of Rs 4.06 crore he had taken in financial year 2015-2016.
Chandan had lodged a complaint with the CBI on Monday.
According to the FIR, the loan was taken by Chandan’s father Shatrughan Sharan Sharma, who is the director of Maa Vindhyavasini Rice Mill Private Limited at Daudnagar in Aurangabad district. But over a period of time, the loan became a non-performing asset (NPA) for the bank.
To settle this loan at one go, Chandan’s father wrote an application to zonal manager of Andhra Bank on December 27 last year. For the processing of the file for one-time settlement, Sandeep asked Chandan to meet him at his residence on Tuesday to make part payment of the bribe money of Rs 20 lakh.
The CBI lodged an FIR on Tuesday after the allegation of demanding bribe by the senior manager was found to be true during an internal inquiry by ACB.
