One Solution To Our Ports Pollution, Balqon Cares BLQN (OTC.BB)

/EINPresswire.com/ Forty percent of the U.S. population and residents of the largest port cities and inland distribution hubs, breathe air that is life threatening. Our major hubs of economic activity the marine ports are among the most poorly regulated areas in the USA for sources of pollution. Recent studies have stated that in residential areas surrounding our major ports people are at higher risk of respiratory disease and cancer.

Daily changes are being made to solve the issue of port pollution but very rarely do we hear about it in main stream media . Worth mentioning is in February 2009, the Port of Los Angeles took delivery of the first of 25 heavy-duty, all-electric trucks it ordered from Balqon Corp BLQN (OTC.BB) following the successful testing of a prototype truck the Port and SCAQMD funded to build in 2007.

The Port of Los Angeles is taking steps to go green ! No doubt others will soon follow. Instead of running on diesel power while at berth, AMP-equipped ships "plug in" to shore side electrical power. On February 24, 2011, the Port of Los Angeles became the first port worldwide to provide AMP to three separate cruise lines. Disney Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line have all taken advantage of "AMP Mobile" technology developed for the World Cruise Center.

We have electric trucks, cruise ships, cars and now Balqon(OTCBB: BLQN)is taking it a step further..Balqon Corporation Introduces Zero-Emissions MX30 Class 8 Electric Tractor.

Balqon Corporation will showcase its new on-road electric tractor, the MX30, at the EVS26 Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 6th to 9th 2012.

Balqon Corporation (OTCBB: BLQN), a developer of electric drive system technologies for trucks, tractors and buses, announced the release of a new on-road Class 8, electric tractor, Model MX30, for short haul drayage and inner city applications. Balqon is showcasing its MX30 tractor at the EVS26 Expo, the largest electric vehicle show in the world.

"The EVS26 event, where new technologies promoting electric transportation are on display, offers what we believe to be an excellent opportunity to exhibit our industry-leading lithium battery powered 30 ton capacity Class 8 tractor to an international audience," said Balwinder Samra, Chief Executive Officer of Balqon Corporation. "High fuel costs favor higher-efficiency electric vehicle solutions in high idling short-haul applications at locations such as ports, airports and urban centers where both smog and congestion contribute to health risks to local communities. The MX30, a heavy-duty electric tractor, is ideal for short-haul container drayage applications at these locations. For example, we believe that the MX30 is an ideal solution for use at ports where air pollution is severe and distances travelled between marine terminals and local rail yards are less than five miles per trip" he added.

The MX30 to be displayed at the EVS26 Expo is equipped with Balqon's proprietary drive system that is connected to a six speed automatic transmission assembled on a Freightliner truck chassis. Equipped with standard 600 Volt lithium batteries, the MX30 has the energy to travel up to 150 miles under unloaded conditions on a single charge. The MX30 also features fast charging, which allows the vehicle to be charged in less than three hours, thereby increasing the daily range of the vehicle when properly charged.

The MX30 can travel at speeds up to 70 mph, tow loads of over 30 tons. MX30 incorporates Balqon drive system with the latest idle-shut off technologies that increases energy conservation during vehicle idling. The new vehicle incorporates Balqon's proprietary battery management system and charging systems.
