Life Care Services brings Lyft to Senior Living Communities

Des Moinies, Iowa, Aug. 22, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Life Care Services®, An LCS® Company announced it has partnered with Lyft to bring on-demand transportation to senior living communities managed by Life Care Services. The service offers residents an alternative to group transportation or driving their own vehicle.

“We continually explore opportunities to help our senior living residents remain independent,” says Allison Pendroy, senior vice president, director of for-profit communities for Life Care Services. “We chose Lyft because the company has a dedicated platform to serve seniors. They require a rigorous background screening for all drivers, have an IT solution that allows the community to schedule rides for residents, the technology that enables the community to follow ride routes from beginning to end, and efficient billing.”

The program is operational at ten Life Plan Communities managed by Life Care Services with plans to roll out the service at other communities throughout the year. Currently, Lyft is operational at Sagewood, Phoenix, Arizona; The Heritage at Brentwood, Brentwood, Tennessee; Timber Ridge at Talus, Issaquah, Washington; North Oaks, Pikesville, Maryland; The Clare, Chicago, Illinois; Marquette, Indianapolis, Indiana; Blakehurst, Towson, Maryland;  Plantation Village, Wilmington, North Carolina,  Morningside of Fullerton, Fullerton, California; and Trillium Woods, Plymouth, Minnesota. Life Care Services intends to deploy this partnership with Lyft to more communities and markets very soon.

Resident feedback about the service has been very positive. “We came out of the movie and the ride was there, right on time! I’ve been waiting for five years for this type of on-demand transportation,” says one resident at The Heritage at Brentwood. Another resident noted, “At 5:03 a text came saying, ‘Your Lyft driver, Lee is here. Look for the white Dodge Grand Caravan (and listed his license plate number).’ … the ride was smooth and felt safe.”

According to Lyft, the service is 35 to 55 percent more affordable than using taxi services and deliver substantial savings compared to private transportation services. “We’re pleased to partner with Life Care Services to provide reliable transportation to its senior living communities,” said Gyre Renwick, Head of Healthcare Partnerships, Lyft. “By offering this solution, we’re helping reduce isolation and empower people with a more efficient and affordable mobility option.”
