COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Amerigroup and Columbus Piedmont Regional partnered for the "Ready, Set, Summer-Safety Tips" tour in Columbus Thursday.

The tour visited kid-friendly organizations to discuss the dangers of heat.

Heat exhaustion can cause nausea, vomiting, and fainting along with other problems. Additionally, heat stroke raises your body temperature, causing problems to get worse.

Sunburn is another result of heat and can have serious effects, especially if the damage happens throughout much of a person's life.

"We know that it's important to educate them on the importance of sunscreen. We have a Community Health Needs Assessment that we do every three years, and it has identified the different cancers. Skin Cancer is one of those focuses that we provide education on as well as stroke," said Melonese Close, population health coordinator at Piedmont Columbus Regional Outreach.

During the hottest months of the year, it's also important to stay hydrated as well.
