A Gastonia outdoor apparel store is back in business — just in time for the spring weather.

Gander Outdoors opened this month in the space occupied by the former Gander Mountain store in the Franklin Square shopping center, near Books-A-Million and PetSmart.

Its predecessor was caught up in a wave of storefront closings in 2017 when Gander Mountain went bankrupt.

Camping World Holdings Chairman Marcus Lemonis bought the company at bankruptcy court and announced plans to reopen three locations in the greater Charlotte area — the other two being in in Monroe and Mooresville.

“It was important to me to bring the Gander Outdoors back to the wonderful community of Charlotte because the employees were topnotch and the store was a great performer serving the outdoor enthusiast community,” Lemonis said in a statement earlier this year.

The 42,000 square-foot Gastonia location opened earlier this month.

A manager was not available to speak this week, but the store was full of outdoor apparel, hunting, fishing and camping gear, boating and biking supplies, trail cameras and various products for making beef jerky, among other things.

The store’s hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call the store at 704-899-5030 or go to ganderoutdoors.com.
