Battle Creek employees and retirees create Better Days through increased participation in campaign

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Oct. 16, 2017 - In our community, many families need help to access the basics of life: food in the pantry, access to breakfast and lunch at school, health care and reliable income.

To help address these concerns, Kellogg Company and its local employees and retirees have pledged $2.2 million during this year's United Way campaign for the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo region. This contribution includes a corporate gift[1] and many company-wide fundraisers for United Way.

Motivated by the company's Breakfasts for Better Days™ global signature cause, Kellogg employees increased their participation in this year's campaign by nearly 10 percent, while also assisting many local and regional nonprofits through United Way Day of Caring projects. This week, as part of annual World Food Day activities, Kellogg employees are also volunteering at United Way's 'United Against Hunger' food-packing event and collecting food for the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.

Through this support, Kellogg and its employees will help enable the United Way's nearly 100 local programs to continue providing a strong and much-needed safety net for low income and homeless families in the region.

'At Kellogg, we realize there is a real need to help, right here in our hometown,' said Noel Geoffroy, President, U.S. Frozen Foods and executive co-sponsor for this year's United Way campaign at Kellogg. 'By supporting United Way, we are helping our neighbors in need gain access to food - one of life's most basic needs.'

'Every year, Kellogg, its employees and retirees demonstrate their compassion and enthusiasm for helping others in our community through the United Way and our partner agencies,' said Chris Sargent, President and CEO of the United Way Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region. 'We hope their example inspires other companies, businesses and individuals to join us in changing the story for thousands of area children and families.'

'We're fighting hunger and feeding potential in the communities where we live and work,' said Joe Metzger, Senior Vice President, Kellogg North America Supply Chain and executive co-sponsor of the campaign. 'Together, we're creating better days for everyone.'

Last year, Kellogg almost doubled its initial goal for Breakfasts for Better Days, having provided nearly 1.9 billion servings of food to people in need since 2013. The company then set a new goal of creating 3 billion Better Days for people around the world by the end of 2025. This new commitment integrates Kellogg's work in hunger relief, sustainability and reduction of food waste in its facilities around the world. As a key Breakfastsfor Better Days partner, Kellogg supports United Way in locations across the U.S.
