Molina Healthcare, headquartered in Long Beach, announced plans to enter a new four-year contract to provide Medicaid health coverage throughout the state of Illinois.
The company, which focuses on health plans for customers receiving government assistance, announced the contract Tuesday. Molina Healthcare’s agreement is scheduled to begin with the new year.
Molina Healthcare already offers Medicaid plans in Cook County, home of Chicago, and 12 other Illinois counties. As of this past March, the company had some 194,000 Illinois customers enrolled in Medicaid plans, or holding coverage for people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
The company’s announcement follows its disclosure earlier this month of a $230-million loss for its April-to-June quarter. Molina Healthcare’s leadership has also revealed a company-wide reorganization that includes plans to lay off as many as some 1,500 employees.
