Four months after buying the Ann Arbor-based less-than-truckload shipping company formerly known as Con-way, parent company XPO Logistics Inc. has eliminated 160 positions, the company announced late last week.

In a press release issued Friday, XPO Logistics indicated the positions cut were non-sales related and were mostly in administrative, management and back office functions. Another 30 jobs were cut in parts of the company where redundancies were created when Con-way was bought in September.

While the press release doesn't specifically name positions being eliminated in the Ann Arbor offices, the company has previously announced it would be eliminating redundant positions in Ann Arbor.

In November, XPO announced it was laying off 36 of the 470 employees working in Ann Arbor.

With the latest round of layoffs, XPO said less than one percent of the less-than-truckload workforce in North America was affected.

XPO says the staff reductions will save the company more than $20 million in annual costs and has generated approximately $50 million is expected annualized savings in the three months since acquiring Con-way.

Con-way was purchased by XPO in September for $3 billion and was officially absorbed into XPO in November. Con-way was the only Fortune 500 Company based in Ann Arbor before the sale and had revenues of $5.8 billion in 2014.
