Maya Academy of Advanced Creativity (MAAC) organised a webinar, ‘Behind the Screens’ today (March 17, 2025) for 5,000 students in India. The session, spearheaded by Jay Mehta, VFX supervisor, Scanline VFX, concentrated on careers in the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) industries.

During the session, Jay Mehta, who has about 20 years of experience working in firms like Netflix and Epic Games, delved into areas such as visual storytelling, film production, and the importance of building basic skills in emerging technologies. The webinar stressed the imporance of balancing technological advancements with human creativity to craft authentic narratives. MAAC streamed the educational session live from its Mumbai centre to all its branches pan-India.

Expressing his happiness about the BTS session participants being highly passionate about the world of storytelling, filmmaking, and VFX, Mehta said, “During the session with MAAC students, we were able to discuss learnings from individual career journey in the AVGC-XR sector. It was evident that youngsters are optimistic about the use and adoption of technology.”

About 80% of employers in India are struggling to find the right talent they need, according to a recent ManpowerGroup Talent Shortage Survey involving over 3,150 employers in the country. Given that the AVGC-XR sector is expected to grow by nearly 18% year-on-year, it underlines the immense job requirements it will create in the coming years. While organisations need to reskill their existing employees, it also highlights the importance of roping in young talent into workforce.

Mehta appealed students to create their work portfolios early on, share their work on social media, and master various software packages to improve their chances at recruitment. The student attendees learnt about new career pathways in domains such as VFX, digital filmmaking, and advanced technology applications.

Sandip Weling, Chief Business Officer, Global Retail, Aptech Limited said, “At MAAC, community-led platforms such as Behind the Screens have been playing a crucial role in skilling our students to prepare them for their careers in the AVGC-XR industry. The session by Mr. Jay Mehta of Scanline VFX has offered pivotal industry exposure for our students, helping to bridge the gap between their academic training and the demands of today’s industry. I thank Jay for spending his valuable time engaging with our students and hope that we continue to collaborate on many such initiatives soon!”
