Storms have lingering impacts across Georgia
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - There is a First Alert Weather Day in place through Thursday evening as multiple rounds of rain and storms are expected to continue moving through our area.
The risk for severe weather, including a tornado, is possible through the evening, though the risk was highest through 3 p.m. Thursday. All of north Georgia was under a tornado watch until 1 p.m.

Thursday, May 9:
6:30 p.m. | Gilmer County Schools announced late Thursday afternoon that classes will be canceled again Friday due to road conditions and power outages.
2:01 p.m. | The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public to use “extreme caution” when driving on the roads. Many culverts have washed away, and some roads have standing water that isn’t draining. At least one tree has also fallen on a moving car, the office says.
1:42 p.m. | The Gilmer County Warming Center announced it is open for anyone in need of shelter after the storm. Pets are also welcome.

1:25 p.m. | Cobb County DOT has cleared over six roadways from fallen trees. Fontaine Road remains closed due to a downed power line, officials said.
1 p.m. | The ground stop has lifted at Atlanta’s airport. However, the FAA said the average delay for flights is still 68 minutes.
12:37 p.m. | Crews work to clear a large tree that fell and knocked out power in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta.

12:30 p.m. | The National Weather Service has removed the tornado watch for areas north of Atlanta.
11:40 a.m. | Ground stop issued at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 12:45 p.m., according to the FAA.
11:14 a.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning for Carroll, Coweta and Heard counties is in effect until 11:45 a.m.

8:58 a.m. | In a Facebook post, Dalton’s city hall said many roads and facilities are closed due to widespread flooding and other storm damage. There were no reports of injuries overnight.
8:30 a.m. | A tree fell on a car in the city of Roswell off North Meadow Parkway. It is unclear if anyone was in the car, but the fire department said there were no injuries.
8:25 a.m. | Storms starting to move into metro Atlanta.
8:10 a.m. | Nearly 200 flights have been delayed coming in or going out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to Flight Aware.
8 a.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Hall, Jackson and Madison until 8:45 a.m.

7:43 a.m. | Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Haralson, Paulding & Polk until 8:30 a.m.

7:02 a.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Bartow, Chattooga, Cherokee, Dawson, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Lumpkin and Pickens counties until 7:45 a.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Towns, Union and White counties until 8 a.m.

6:41 a.m. | Whitfield County Schools has announced that its schools and administrative offices will be closed on Thursday due to flooding and blocked roads. Habersham County Schools is also closing because of downed trees, fallen powerlines and closed roads, it said.
Meanwhile, Gilmer County Schools has decided to close Thursday as well.
6:17 a.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Fannin, Gilmer & Union until 7 a.m.
5:52 a.m. | A tornado watch is in effect for all of north Georgia until 1 p.m. Strong storms move through between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
