ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - There is a First Alert Weather Day in place through Thursday evening as multiple rounds of rain and storms are expected to continue moving through our area.

The risk for severe weather, including a tornado, is possible through the evening, though the risk was highest through 3 p.m. Thursday. All of north Georgia was under a tornado watch until 1 p.m.

Thursday, May 9:

6:30 p.m. | Gilmer County Schools announced late Thursday afternoon that classes will be canceled again Friday due to road conditions and power outages.

2:01 p.m. | The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public to use “extreme caution” when driving on the roads. Many culverts have washed away, and some roads have standing water that isn’t draining. At least one tree has also fallen on a moving car, the office says.

1:42 p.m. | The Gilmer County Warming Center announced it is open for anyone in need of shelter after the storm. Pets are also welcome.
