Above-normal temperatures for mid-autumn are expected during the day Friday along the Front Range before a blustery storm brings rain and then snow.

The foothills and mountains will get between 6 and 12 inches of snow. In the higher elevations as much as 2 feet of snow could fall with wind gusts up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

A winter storm warning is in place for the northern and central mountains through the early hours of Saturday morning. The heaviest snow is expected above 9000 feet during the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will rise to about 64 degrees by 11 a.m. — more than 10 degrees above normal — before the cold front quickly drops temperatures to the upper 40s in the afternoon.

It could start raining late Friday night. There’s a 40 percent chance of precipitation. Snow is expected after 11 p.m. Winds will gust up to 34 mph Friday night.

Between a trace and 1 inch of snow could accumulate in the Denver metro area and the Eastern Plains.
